Discipleship & Spiritual
Formation Opportunities
Our Christian Education team works to present topics of interest for adult groups. There are also book studies and Bible studies offered by our Pastor and various groups.

Every Sunday morning, the Children's team provides Sunday School for youth ages 3-fifth grade downstairs in the nursery room, following the Children's Moment.  This class does an activity based on the topic or theme of the Bible verses used for the sermon.

Downstairs in the Youth Room, following the Children's Moment, there is a Youth Group Study for sixth grade and above, held to discuss topics of the Bible and their application to life.  Attendees who generally attend are up through high school.

Come and join us and learn more about God!

THE DIVINE DANCE
by Fr. Richard Rohr

WEDNESDAYS at 7 PM
March 15 through May 10

COST (for the book):  $12.00

THE TRINITY is supposed to be the central, foundational doctrine of our entire Christian belief system, yet we're often told that we shouldn't attempt to understand it because it is a "mystery." Should we presume to try to breach this mystery? If we could, how would it transform our relationship with God and renew our lives? The word Trinity is not found in the New Testament—it wasn't until the third century that early Christian father Tertullian coined it—but the idea of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit was present in Jesus' life and teachings and from the very beginning of the Christian experience. In the pages of this book, internationally recognized teacher Richard Rohr circles around this most paradoxical idea as he explores the nature of God—circling around being an apt metaphor for this mystery we're trying to apprehend. Early Christians who came to be known as the "Desert Mothers and Fathers" applied the Greek verb perichoresis to the mystery of the Trinity. The best translation of this odd–sounding word is dancing. Our word choreography comes from the same root. Although these early Christians gave us some highly conceptualized thinking on the life of the Trinity, the best they could say, again and again, was, “Whatever is going on in God is a flow—it's like a dance. But God is not a dancer—He is the dance itself.” That idea might sound novel, but it is about as traditional as you can get. God is the dance itself, and He invites you to be a part of that dance.

MAKING SENSE OF THE BIBLE

Offered at two different times on TUESDAYS: 3 PM  and  7 PM  Beginning February 28   (for 8 weeks)

COST (for the book): $8.00

HOW MANY TIMES have you said to yourself things like “This doesn’t make any sense!,” or “Wow! Is God really so jealous and MEAN?” after reading part of the Bible? Have you ever wondered why so many things are repeated—or disagree with/contradict each other in our sacred Scripture? Have you ever wished you could just understand it better?

In Making Sense of the Bible, Adam Hamilton invites us into an honest conversation about the Bible. The book begins with foundational questions such as, “How and when was the Bible written? Who decided which books made it into the scriptures and why? How literally must we read it?” And, “Is the Bible ever wrong?”
From there, Hamilton considers the real questions people frequently ask that continue to divide Christians and denominations alike, including:
• Were Adam and Eve real people?
• Why is God so violent in the Old Testament?
• Why would Paul command women to "keep
   silent in the church"?
• Is Jesus the only way to salvation?
• How does God view homosexual people?
• Is the Book of Revelation a guide to the End
  Times?
In approachable and inviting language, Hamilton addresses these often misunderstood biblical themes leading readers to a deeper appreciation of the of the Bible so that we might hear God speak through it and find its words to be life-changing and life-giving.

"When Christians Get It Wrong"   by Adam Hamilton
(Six session book study with DVD

"More and more young adults have opted out of Christianity and the church. The reason? Christians. Young adults name certain attitudes and behaviors they believe are practiced too often by Christians: judging others, condemning people of other faiths, rejecting science, injecting politics into faith, and being anti-homosexual.” With his familiar style,    Adam Hamilton tackles these issues and addresses the how’s and why’s of Christians getting it right when it comes to being Christ in the world. Those who read When Christians Get It Wrong will gain a different way of understanding the issues that keep people away from Christianity and keep Christians from living a more compelling faith. Because, honestly, if we don’t start getting it right, we may lose an entire generation. Cost: About $10
